Mission
Research and Cost Accounting aspires to be a model organization in the field of Post Award research administration, and to provide exceptional service to the University community. We are charged with promoting an environment that facilitates the University's commitment to its research mission while effectively managing the funds under its stewardship in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and according to the terms and conditions of the sponsoring agencies.
The primary responsibilities of the Post Award group include setting up awards in the Banner system, assigning fund numbers, reviewing expenditures, monitoring compliance, preparing financial reports and invoices, coordinating audit reviews, and closing out funds. The primary responsibilities of the Cost Accounting group include the preparation of the F&A proposal and negotiation, the fringe benefit proposal and negotiation, reports on cost-sharing expenses, reports on service center activities, and the management of the effort reporting process.
To accomplish our goals, we work collaboratively with the faculty and staff who direct and manage Rice's research projects and other sponsored programs.
